Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Three Belfast firms link

• Three Belfast haulage firms are merging to form one big private road transport firm.

The new firm, to be called Wordie, Cowan Ltd. is the result of the merging of Worth.. and Co. (Ulster) Ltd, Cowan and Co. (Carriers) Ltd, and W. M. Fleming and Co Ltd.

After Northern Ireland Carriers Ltd. which is registered as a private limited company, the new group will be the second largest private road transport firm in Ulster.

"The main object of the merger is to create a larger and more efficient organization to provide better service in haulage and warehousing," Mr Roberti Campbell, the new joint general manager, said. "We plan to build a new Belfast depot to house all offices, workshops and vehicle marshalling areas."

"The merger will not result in any redundancies," he added. "We will have 150 drivers, 20 maintenance workers, and 50 others. The vehicle strength will be 160."

All three companies are long established, Wordie and Cowan having operated for more than 100 years.

Cory/Hay's purchase

• Wm. Cory and Son is to purchase from the Proprietors of Ilay's Wharf its subsidiary company, Continental Express, whose overseas and travel interests are not included in a deal understood to be worth approximately £100,000. Mr 3. G. Barnes, managing director of Cory Associated Wharves, a group operating division, said: "This development now completes the range of our traffic handling facilities from small parcels to freight containers".

NCC acquisition

• The National Carbonising Co Ltd has acquired the whole of the issued share capital of Scotts of Nottingham Ltd, one of the main distributors for Atkinson Vehicles Ltd and the sole concessionnaire in the UK for ZF gear box spares.

National Carbonising is adding Scotts to its transport division, known as NCC Plant and Transport Ltd.
