Bedford Manuals

QERVICE training manuals covering current Bedford

goods and passenger vehicles are• available direct from the Service Department, Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., Luton, Beds, or from authorized Vauxhall-Bedford dealers. These manuals are extremely well produced, and cover all aspects of unit maintenance, complete overhaul, inspection and test procedures, in addition to giving details of essential tools required for each task (most of these being available from Vauxhall) a n d constructional details of supple, mentary tools and equipment.

The complete Bedford range is covered by eight manuals, these consisting of T.S.380, dealing with the 300-cu.-in, petrol engine and clutch, 8s. (plus Is. postage); T.S.381/40I, Bedford 200and 300-cu.-in, oil engines and clutches, 9s. (Is.); T.S.382, Bedford 214-cu.in. petrol engine and clutch, 8s. 6d. The Bedford two-speed rear axle is covered by a separate bulletin (no. 57/125) costing ls. 6d.: the five-speed gearbox is covered by service bulletin no. 58/3S, price ls.: whilst a temporary service bulletin—no. 58/5S—has been introduced to cover the recent TJ-series of normal-control vehicles. This is priced at ls. 6d.. all these prices including postage. The service department points out that . when the large manuals are reprinted, the information contained in the three service bulletins will be incorporated in them.

Inexpensive Crane OF ingenious design and priced at less than £30, the Bradshaw combined bolster and jib crane has been produced by the Lichfield Engineering Co., Ltd., Stowe Hill, Lichfield, Stairs. The bolster is of robust tubular construction and is secured on the platform of a lorry in the normal position at the front. A

c20 removable swinging arm is provided which fits into either the left or right upright of the bolster, and enables any standard type of chain or rope block to be used for the raising and lowering of goods.

The device is made in sizes to suit vehicles of different widths, and a table has been calculated to show safe working loads in relation to vehicle tracks. Maxi. mum capacity of the crane is 10 cwt.

Screw Conveyors MADE in various sizes and costing from £45 upwards, the Mayrath portable conveyor is being offered by Gordon Felber and Co., Ltd., Spirella House, Oxford Circus, London, W.1, for the handling of materials including flour. grain, lime and other granulates and certain liquids. It consists of a metal tube 6 in. in diameter inside which is an Archimedean screw that may be driven from either an electric motor or a petrol

engine. It is capable of shifting 30-40 tons an hour or 38-40 c.f.m. of material.

The All Purpose model can be supplied in lengths varying from 11-41 ft. whilst the standard model, made in lengths of from 21-41 ft., is mounted on a twowheeled carriage provided with a winching arrangement for the adjustment of the angle of working. A high-lift model is adapted for operating at elevations of up to 70°, and there are versions which may be carried on a vehicle.

Heavy-duty models for dealing with highly abrasive materials can be supplied,

'Spraying Hot TO enable small users to undertake hot-spray painting, the AerographDevilbiss Co., Ltd., 47 Holborn Viaduct, London, E.C.1, have introduced a hotspray cup which operates off mains electricity supply. It can hold 1 qt. of

paint, and has a Ho. B.S.P.. coupling. (Adapters are available for connection to guns of other types.) After filling, the cup is allowed to heat for 7 nun., when the lead can be disconnected as heat will be retained by the insulation of the cup during spraying.

Bench Trays Additions to the range of bins and trays for bench use sold by Precision Components (Barnet), Ltd., 13 . Byng Road, Barnet,. Hens, are a circular storage tray for minute components, and

stacking storage trays measuring approximately 2 ft. by I ft. by 3 in. A tray measuring 91 in. by 8 in,. by I in. divided

into six compartments and another in. longer divided into 11. compartments are also available, together with a 2-gal. fire bucket' of D cross-Section.

Versatile Lathe DAS1CALLY a lathe, a .machine intro

Folding Truck

CAPABLE of carrying over 1 cwt., a %-..• two-wheeled truck manufactured by Packman Machinery, Ltd., Twyford, Berks, can be folded flat in a few seconds. Known as the Packflat truck, it is of light steel and canvas coristruction, and would be particularly useful for carrying in vehicles, where it would take upp, a minimum payload space when folded.
