ROME 40 bus companies in England J and Wales affiliated to the British Omnibus Companies' Public Relations Committee will on Monday inaugurate a courtesy campaign designed to spread goodwill between their staffs and the public and regain lost traffic. "Life is brighter for courtesy" is the theme adopted by the organizers.

Each company is conducting its own campaign, hut assistance in the form of posters is being supplied by the central authority. The posters will be supplemented by Press publicity, and in some instances by public addresses . by local dignitaries. An approach is also likely to be made to schools. Some municipalities are joining the movement.

The campaign has already got under way—somewhat before the official starting date—in the north of England.

CO-ORDINATION NEEDED

THE need for co-ordination of trans' port services in Scotland was urged by Cllr. Peter Meldrum, convenor of Glasgow Transport Committee, when he spoke at the Scottish section dinner of the Institute of Transport in Glasgow. In many parts of Scotland today, he said, too many services, passenger and goods, were chasing too few customers.

"The Scottish Transport Council was formed in 1945 to co-ordinate the various Scottish transport undertakings," said ale •Meldrum, "but nothing has been heard of that committee since the day it was formed. Whether it is still in being is a mystery and whether it will ever report is a greater mystery! If the committee is not going to act, then the public service undertakings in Scotland should come together to work out these problems."
