In Section II, MR. R. J. Thorpe, driver, Northampton Transport Department, won first prize, MR. F. HOLLAND, conductor, Salford Transport Department, second, and MR. R. WASON, driver, West Hartlepool Transport Department, third. A special prize was awarded to MRS. M. D. HUGHES, conductress, London Transport.

MR. A. E. H. BROWN has been appointed a member of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for Scotland. He succeeds MR. T. F. CAMERON, who has resigned.

MR. G. PARRY, traffic officer of Bolton Transport Department since 1941, has been appointed deputy manager of the Burnley, Colne and Nelson Joint Transport undertaking.

LICENCE FOR NEWCOMERS

NEWCOMERS gained a licence from the Western Licensing Authority on Monday, to carry for customers in Pill, a town which was expanding and where there were only two hauliers compared with five in 1940. A witness said that he had moved his furniture in a wheelbarrow as he could not obtain proper transport.

Messrs. Hunt Bros., Pill, the applicants, wished to meet local needs, carrying building materials, market garden produce, manure and furniture. The Authority allowed building materials to be hauled within 25 miles and general goods 10 miles.

TAY BRIDGE AGREEMENT GREEMENT in principle to car"' operate in the construction of a Tay road bridge has been reached by representatives of Dundee, Angus and Fife local authorities. The cost of a bridge is now estimated at Om. and the structure could be built in 21 years.
