THE first three trainees to be taken into the Associated Omnibus Companies' training scheme, which was introduced about three years ago by the British Electric Traction Co., Ltd., to develop executives for the higher posts in the bus companies with which it is associated, have completed their course and have been appointed to positions with companies in the group.
Details of the careers and new positions of the three men concerned are as follows:—Mr. J. H. Gilbert, who joined the G.W.R. in 1935, served with the Royal Engineers, was, on release, attached to the Midland " Red " concern; now he has become assistant area manager with the Western Welsh Omnibus Co„ at Carmarthen. Mr. J. E. Hollands became an indentured apprentice with A.E.C., Ltd., in 1937, and joined the engineering staff of Midland " Red " in 1945. He trained with the Western Welsh concern, and has become personal assistant to the general manager of the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd. Mr. J. W. Womar, Junr., became an engineering apprentice with the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., in 1933, spent some months with Leyland Motors, Ltd., at the end of his apprenticeship, and in 1938 became technical assistant to the chief engineer of the North Western concerts. After serving with R.E.M.E., he was posted to the Maidstone and District Motor Services for the special training, and is now personal assistant to the general manager of the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd.
These initial successes should encourage young men interested in the industry to put their names forward for consideration.
