THE EUROPEAN Court of Justice last week blocked an attempt by Austria to ban HGVs from the most important motorway linking Italy and Germany.
It was the second time that the court had suspended the Austrian order barring HGVs from a 29mile stretch of the Al2. The ban is being sought by the governor of Alpine Tyrol province in order to reduce pollution. The European Commission objected to the ban on the grounds that it posed a serious risk of damage to EU hauliers. The court extended an earlier suspension of the ban until 30 April.
