THE Paris Motor Omnibus Co, is about to put into service a number of small, fast machines which are to run between fixed points. This project has been under consideration foe a, long time, but at length it is about to be put into practice. The buses will be 23-seaters of the front-entrance type, after the style of many of the vehicles which are used on provincial service in England.

The back-platform arrangement which exists on the present types in use will be dispensed with, and the buses will provide accommodation for one class of passengersonly, and not first and second, as has always been the rule in Paris. The removal of the platform in the design, however, will not be regretted by the average visitor to Paris.

The need for " safety first" has never. loomed so large with the "Transport en Commun dans la Region Parisiert " a 3 it does with passenger-carrying concerns in this country, and many an unfortunate passenger has bitten the dust upon alighting backwards from this chain-surrounded abomination.

The six-wheeled type of omnibus has proved A success in Paris, and some 50 of these machines are now in service. It is doubtful whether similar vehicles would prove practicable. in London service. Even in Parts they are kept to special routes with no sharp turnings.

The trials with giant pneumatics have up to now more or less satisfied the company as to the advantages obtained from this type of equipment. Two omnibuses fitted with pneumatics were put on the road some six months ago or more. In one case the tyres gave out after a very short trial, but in the case of the second omnibus 20,000 kilometres have been travelled without a gingle mishap of any kind.

Four omnibuses fitted with pneumatic tyres are now in regular service. These vehicles are run over each of the regular routes in succession, in order to give them a test over all the different road surfaces in Paris. The trials will continue for another nine months before the company come to a decision as to the possibility of the introduction of pneumatics on all their 'rolling stock.
