Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• City Vehicle Engineering now offers the Perkins 4/ 182 three-litre normallyaspirated diesel engine as an alternative to the Land Rover turbocharged 2.5litre diesel on its Omni lowfloor minibus. The gearbox is still the ZF four-speed manual unit.

Carlyle fleet boost

• Carlyle Bus Centre, Birmingham, has added 10 20-seat Sherpa minibuses to its Carlyle-hire fleet, boosting it to more than 50. Seating capacities range from 16 to 25.

Vehicles are offered on short or long-term hire to operators wishing to add services, undertake driver training, or cover for late delivery of vehicles. The fleet is supplemented by second hand minibuses taken as trade-ins by the Carlyle Group.

Winter by the sea

• Lincolnshire independent operator Appleby's, which has a base near Scarborough, says it has had a good response to its Scarborough sea-front service and is planning to run routes during the winter.

Three commercial routes have been registered on the town network and are in direct competition with the majority of the network of Scarborough & District. Five semi-coaches are used on the hourly services, one of which was a tendered operation during the summer.

Terrier grows up

• Yorkshire Terrier, the Sheffield independent set up last year by five SYT managers, is to move to new premises. Its fleet has expanded from 7 to 31 vehicles, and is now outgrowing its second depot at the rear of the former SYPTE Queens Road Works.

Terrier is buying land at Mosborougb to build a garage for at least 60 buses, with room for further expansion.
