Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT is always interesting to come across evidence of 4 an unusual character which throws even meagre light upon the question as to what becomes of old-time motor vehicles. There are many motor vehicles, and also steam-driven vehicles, on the road which have given service continuously for 15 years or more, but, of course, some now 'and again come to untimely ends.

The photograph which accompanies these notes was taken at Mongalla, near the source of the Nile, and it shows the remains of a Thornycroft steam lorry, one of a fleet which was sUpplied over 25 years ago to the Belgian Government for transport from Fashoda into the Belgian Congo territory. These .vehicles ran successfully for a number of years, and nothing more was heard of them at the London -headquarters of Thornycroft until recently, when this photograph was received • from Mr. Berthon, engineer in charge of the transport services which have recently been organized by the Sudan Government with a fleet of Thornycroft tyPe Al four and six-wheeled vehicles.

The lorry had evidently crashed at some time or other, and it had been found impossible to effeel repairs locally, so that after having been

stripped of all useful or adaptable parts the remains had been abandoned. Virtually all that is left of the vehicle are the two axles with their wheels and a portion of the firebox. We have no information as to the length of time that the machinery has lain in its present position, but the phcitograph does not suggest an advanced state of disintegration.
