Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Detroit Diesel is talking to big fleet operators in a bid to generate sales of its new Series 60 engine to British truck makers. The company is keen to impress large hauliers, who might influence UK truck builders such as Foden, ERF and Seddon Atkinson.

Detroit, which has the engine on trial with Railfreight and Alfred Hymas, says it would probably be uneconomical for transport firms to retrofit the engine. So far, no manufacturers have decided to install the Series 60, but it says that several are interested.

One is powering a racing truck belonging to Detroit service dealer West Coast Diesel of Pinxston and driven by Slim Borgudd (CM28 March-3 April).
