At a recent meeting, of the Highways Committee of the Hertfordshire County Council it was reported that. the question of the desirability of making a by-law requiring the provision of spark arresters
team engines using the roads in the county had been taken up with the Ministry of Agriculture, the 'Ministry of Transport and the Home Office, earl that the Ministry of Agriculture had referred the matter to the Ministry of Health. The committee now reports that the -Home Office has been in tench with the Ministry of Transport in the matter, and the following is a copy of a communication which has been received from the Home Office:— "The Secretary of State is informed by the Ministry of Transport that it doubts whether there is any power to make a by-law requiring the provision of spark arresters under the Locomotives on Highways Act, but a departmental committee of the Ministry is inquiring as to the desirability of requiring such provision, and the matter can be further considered, if necessary, when the committee's report is available."
