A conference between the -Urban District Councils of the two Mathe.ks has resulted in a decision to allow a service of motorbuses to be run for two years without notice to quit being given.

Motor Ambulances.

The Watch Committee of Northampton Town Council has decided to purchase a motor ambulance at a cost not exceeding £1300, subject to certain conditions.

The Ambulance Committee of the Metropolitan Asylums Board has been authorized to take the necessary steps for the supply of six more motor ambulances.

The l'e ineial Road Car Co., Ltd., has ..pplied to the Bury watch committee for permission to run buses on the Bury streets. The application. was referred by the watch committee to the general purposes C ommittee.

The Mud-splashing Trouble.

• A deputation of 11.P.s recently waited on the President of the Local Government Board, to lay before him views on mud-splashing by heavy motor lorries. Mr. Burns gave the deputation a sympathetic hearing.

Tillings Ask for a Subsidy.

The Farnborough (Kent) Borough Council has been informed by Tillings that unless some arrangement is made for the granting of a subsidy, t-he bus service running to Farnborough could not be extended. We understand that the Borough Council is giving the matter favourable consideration. A Leicestershire Registration.

A Chicago Taxicab Company has decided that a number of its cabs, stationed at stores and hotels, shall be provided with women drivers. It is thought that feminine shop. pers will prefer to be driven by women A Bus Triumph at Birmingham.

As the Birmingham Tramways authorities have failed in their application to Parliament for permission to construct tramways to Harborne, the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. recently renewed its application for permission to run a service of buses. Twenty Tilling Stevens vehicles will be employed, and we understand that the application is likely to be successful. Buses at Devizes.

As an outcome of the negotiations which have been taking place between the Devizes Chamber of Commerce and the officials of the Bath Electric Tramways, a new bus service will be started on the 1st June. Trial trips have already taken place over the routes with satisfactory results.

No Satisfactory Guards.

In answer to a recent question in the House of Commons, Mr. McKenna stated that the Commissioner of Police had impressed on proprietors of motorbuses the importance of providing suitable guards. When such guards were provided concessions would be made as to the minimum road clearance of the buses. As yet no satisfactory device had been submitted.

Taxicabs in Hastings.

The General Purposes Committee has recommended that no inure taxicab licences should be at present issued in Hastings, as the town is already well supplied with cabs. Messrs. Skinner's, who applied for the new licences, were granted permission to run a service with two chars-a-bancs.

Heard on the Road.

A tramcar was halted at one of the stopping places in a London street recently, when a B-type bus dashed up. The expedition and smartness with which the manceuvre was performed incited several of the passengers on the tramcar to leave that vehicle and enter the bus. This procedure gave the conductor of the bus an opportunity for the exercise of his wit, for he was heard to call out, "Any more in the waiting room 2 "
