i HAVE noted the letter from Mr. M. H. Heard in your A issue of February 9, 1962, commenting upon the provisions in the Transport Bill that would give H.M. Government power to extend the manufacturing activities of the statutory boards, the holding company and its subsidiaries at its absolute and unfettered discretion.

These would remove the restrictions on the manufacture of road vehicle chassis and bodies by B.T.C.-owned concerns set out in S.2 of the Transport Act, 1947, and allow the companies principally concerned, Bristol Commercial Vehicles, Ltd., Eastern Coach Works, Ltd., and Star Bodies (B.T.C.), Ltd., to manufacture for general sale in the home and export markets.
