Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE ARTICLE concerning red diesel (CM 26 May) was most interesting, but once again the main point seems to have been overlooked by the government and everyone else: should there even be rebated fuel? As with the infamous tackload rate' it causes nothing but problems in the marketplace.

Surely, a better idea would be to eliminate red diesel altogether by having a uniform rate of duty, thereby increasing revenue and removing temptation for illegal use at the same time.

There are certain fuel depots in Kent where many trucks fill their main tanks at the 'red' pump, which is really only for fridge motors before boarding ferries.

Also, isn't it time to restrict agricultural tractors to what they are supposed to do agriculture, not haulage with a realistically low speed limit on the public highways, and strict limits on the size or weight of trailers?

Those Fastrac-type vehicles are a menace on the roads as they run at identical speed to HGVs on many single-carriageway A and B-class roads, and cause many legitimate hauliers to lose a lot of business.

If farmers want to move large loads they ought to run proper goods vehicles on restricted 0licences.Years ago farmers ran trucks on the old C-licences and were allowed to help neighbours within a small radius.
