The Chartered Institute of Waste Management gathers at Torbay for its

annual bin-fest. Colin Bameft reports.

SUMMER IS fast approaching and that can only mean one thing it's time for CIWM.

The UK's waste management industry will be packing their order pads and heading for Torbay, where they will be met by a throng of chassis and specialist equipment manufacturers.

All the major truck chassis manufacturers apart from Daf will be attending. Star of the show is expected to be MAN's long awaited TGA low-entry RV chassis with its cab sourced from the UK's Dennis Eagle. Another newcomer will be the Highlander off-road version of the Volvo FL.

Among Scania's offering will be a P270 4x2 with a Geesink Norha RCV body. This will feature the Scania Interactor 600 control system, which allows full control and monitoring of the body from the driving seat via a touch-screen.

Foden's big news is the introduction of the AS-Tronic transmission on double-drive landfill tractors. Mercedes-Benz's latest Atego and Axor models will be there, along with the revised Econic, and an Actros 6x4.The new Mitsubishi Fuso Canter will be there too, squaring up to Isuzu: three municipal versions of the N QR.

The Iveco Group will have a full line-up, from the Daily AGile van with its automated transmission to the Bertone-styled Seddon Atkinson M5 Pacer six-man cab. Included will be a Pacer 6x4 in the distinctive green livery of Noblet Municip Hire.BMC will be launching its 6'. low-entry, smooth-sided refu collection vehicle, at what it sa will be an"irresistible" price.

In the sweeper sector, Johnst( will be displaying for the first tin under the Bucher banner: large of its new products is the Bea VT800 multi-purpose sweeper. The Ford stand will be highlig a raft of price cuts and extra equi ment on selected Ranger,wortht to £1,300.Team Transit will incliu an off-the-shelf dropsider.

LDV's Maxus continues its deb tante season with its first appeE ance before the municipal mark' Citroen and Vauxhall will both I showcasing their ready-made co versions, as well as their standa ranges. And Mega will be putth the "light" into light commerciE with its tiny but successful trucks.
