Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• With reference to j B Cheverton's letter "Emergency Vehicle" (CM 19-25 May) I thought the enclosed article might be of interest. As you can see, the vehicle was in a class of its own and ahead of its time, as R Grainger, Chief

Ambulance Officer of East Sussex would, I am sure, agree. The rash conclusion drawn by J B Cheverton — that a certain French van would make a good

basis for an ambulance, because it exhibits similarities to the Dennis — is, to say the least, lese-majeste.

K F Horton, Fleet Engineer, Surrey Ambulance Service.

Mr Horton's newspaper clipping from 1969 certainly rang a bell with us and sent our photographer hunying to our archives for the Picture seen left For the record, the Dennis ambulance featured a 115kW (155hp) 2.4litre Jaguar engine coupled to a Citroen front wheel-drivetransmission. As a result the internal height inside the body was well above average.

It just so happens that the first Prototype of the Dennis was supplied to none other than Surrey Ambulance Service. Ed
