IT was appropriate that a combined civilian/Army team won the final of the CM Recovery Competition.

The final, involving a simulated recovery situation, was staged on the heathland around the Bordon •army complex. Finalists were asked to imagine that the four Bedford Army vehicles, which were put on their sides, were in fact 81/2-ton tippers, loaded with sharp sand, which had gone out of control and turned over.

To add to their difficulties, contestants were told that the vehicles were on a 1 in 14 gradient in a narrow road opposite the garden of a local councillor. accident, their regard to safety and their technical ability in recovering the vehicle without further damage.

The prize, donated by C. F. Holmes of Dereham, Norfolk, is a silver cup which will be retained by Mr Carruthers for six months and by the Army team for the following six months.
