Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Busy Whitsun at Heston.

On June 2 • the Whitsun rush commenced in earnest at Heston, 32 machines being given Customs clearances for abroad. An 'immense amount of private and commercial traffic was handled during the week-end, machines arriving and departing every few minutes: Spartan Air Lines, Ltd., Tau several speeial. charters. A. Puss Moth arrived during the week from South Africa and 7rt Percival Galt made the trip, from Hamburg to Heston in 3i hours.

A Useful Derby Day Charter.

A good example of co-ordinated charter work was carried out on Derby Day by British Flying Boats, Ltd., and Blackpool and West Coast Air Services, Ltd. The Sam Cloud amphibian flying boat of the former company brought eight persons horn the Isle of Man to Squire's Gate Aerodrome, Blackpool; they were transferred to two four-seater Fox Moths and flown to Croydon (210 miles), despite a headwind, in 2 hrs. 25 mins. They returned after seeing the races at Epsom, reaching BlackPool in 1 hr. 50 mins., and taking the Cloud over to the Isle of Mall.

New Radio Beacon Times.

The Air Ministry announces that the Orfordness rotating 'radio beacon now transmits regularly on a wave length of 3,040 metres at 8-12 minutes, 20-24 minutes and 56-60 minutes after each hour. The identification signal G.F.P. is used (not to be confused with G.F.T. signal ef Tagmere experimental station).

B.A.N. • Co. Fully Occupied.

The aeroplanes of the British Air Navigation Co. Ltd., Heston, were fully throughout roughout Whitsun. More than 35 people were taken from London to Le Touquet and back, for which purpose the company hired a Dragon from Brian Lewis and Co., Ltd., and H. Cruiser from. Spartan Air Lines, Ltd.

An unpleasant piece of business, which called for speedy handling, was the photography in connection with the railway disaster at Nantes, Brittany. The Gull left Heston at 12.45 p.m., took numerous photographs, and was back at 9 p.m., having covered 780 miles.

Liverpool-Isle of Man Service Starting June 22.

Further details are to hand from Blackpool and West Coast Air Services, Ltd., Squire's Gate Aerodrome, Blackpool, of the proposed new service to the Isle of Man ; this was announced in last • week's issue.

The service is to operate every day from June 22. The following time-table has been provisionally .arranged :— Calls will be made at Birkdale, Southport, and the machine used will be an eight-passenger Dragon, supplied by Brian Lewis and Co., Ltd. Day trips to the island will be run.

Norman Edgar Reduces Fares.

Reduced fares now obtain with the Cardiff-Bristol air service of Messrs. Norman Edgar, Bristol, and Red and White Services, Ltd., Cardiff. The new scale is 9s, single and 18s. return between Cardiff and Bristol, and as these fares compare favourably with the charges of other transport services between these cities, a considerably increased number of fares is anticipated.

Wireless for Scottish Machines.

We are informed by Standard Telephones and Cables, Ltd., Aerodrome Road, London, N.W.9, that Dragons and Fox Moths of the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., are being equipped with Standued ..A.TR-7 wireless sets, and that the new Airspeed Ferry for Midland and Scottish Airways, Ltd., is having one of the ATR-4 sets, whilst one of these smaller sets is being installed in the Dragon just ordered by the Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd.

Hillman's Traffic Figures.

Messrs. Hillman's Airways, Romford, give the following numbers of passengers carried •in the week to June 1:-Itomford-Clacton line, 19 single journeys; Romford-Margate line, 63; Romford-Paris line, 80. Machines were duplicated on the Paris service through-. out the holiday. The figures for Whitsun (Friday morning to Tuesday night) were, respectively, 48, 127 and 90. Dragons made chartered flights to Bournemouth, Norwich, Isle of Wight, Berek and Barnstaple, and 338 passengers were given pleasure flights at Romford.

Imperial Day Trip Started.

The inaugural Croydon-Le Touquet day trip of Imperial Airways Ltd., on Sunday last, was fully booked, the fare being £3 15s., including dinner served while flying. Out of some 1,500 people who flew over the Channel during Whitsun, about 1,000 were carried by Imperial Airways, Ltd., which company had to send seven machines to Paris on the Friday.

British Aero Oil Engines.

Probably two oil-engiued machines will be seen at the R.A.F. Pageant at Hendon on June 24, one being a Westland Wapiti, with Bristol Pheenix engine, and the other a Hawker Horsley • with Rolls-Royce Condor engine.

Safety First in the Air.

The National ;Safety First Association, to follow up its pamphlet entitled "Air Sense," is now producing two posters for display at aerodromes, one giving safety hints to new pilots and the other to the general public.

Australia Mail: Provisional Date.

Imperial Airways, Ltd., hopes that the Indian air mail will be extended to Australia early in 1934. The 10-day flight to Singapore will save 10-14 days compared with steamship services, and the 10,000-mile journey to Australia will be made in about 12 days.
