• Road Haulage Association chairman Bobby Heaton has been awarded an OBE in the New Year's honours' list; John Harvey, chairman and chief executive of Tibbett & Britten, is made a CBE.
Terry Coupland, a tanker driver with Fina at its Lindsey terminal, wins a BEM: he was nominated by the company for his services as a shop steward for the TGWU and helping to introduce a new salary scheme for drivers.
At Shrewsbury-based Multilift, Norman Eden, managing director of the government business operations, gets an OBE, as does Dr John Bergg, who retired this week as director of highways and transportation at Surrey County Council.
An OBE is also awarded to David Close, group human resources director at fire appliance firm Simon Engineering.
At the Department of Transport, Guy Northcote, senior professional and technical officer in the highways engineering division, is made an MBE.
Peter White of the TRRL gets a BEM.
