Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LONDON TRANSPORTS minimum LA fare, which has not altered since 1952. is to be raised from 2d. to 21d. on December 18. This is the main effect of fare increases, designed to bring in an extra £4m. a year, which the Transport Tribunal have authorized the London Transport Executive to impose under the-emergency procedure provided by the Transport Act, 1953.

The revised charges will later be the subject of a public inquiry by the Tribunal.

Higher fares on the Underground and on British Railways' London lines will come into effect on January 8.

The 4d., 6d., 8d., 10d, and Is. ordinary rates will remain unchanged, the next increase-of Id.-applying to the Is. Id. fare. Early-morning singles will also be increased.
