Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The cleansing committee of Manchester Corporation is to purchase more vehicles, at a cost of 13,210, to replace horse-drawn transport at Blackley. The refuse-collection vehicles recommended for purchase are of a type which show an economy over horsed transport of 22-27 per cent. of the cost, whilst a Manchester tipping lorry for the removal of dust, clinkers, etc., from depot to tip, may be expected to give a saving of 5d. to 7d. per ton-mile over horsed traction. The following are recommended purchases of motor vehicles :—

Three refuse collectors costing 1740 each ; a Manchester 2i-3-ton tipping lorry at £527; and a vehicle, for a different class of work, not yet specified, to be purchased later, after an inspection of various makes, at £593.

Rawtenstall's New Double-deekers.

We have been asked by Mr. Frank Lythgoe, A.M.Inst.T., general manager, Rawtenstall Corporation Tramways and Motors, to point out that his recommendation to the transport committee as to the typeand make of two vehicles which are to be bought, was accepted without question, and that a sub-committee comprising the chairman, vicechairman and himself, was authorized to deal with this matter and affect the necessary purchase.
