Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FARES on all the Ulster Transport Authority's road and rail services will be increased by 5 per cent. from August 19. This follows the I is. increase to all drivers and conductors and certain other road passenger staff.

The Authority's rates were last increased in December when the Transport Tribunal awarded an increase of 10 per cent, with a " cushion " of a further 5 per cent., which was not added at that time, It is this t` cushion " which is now being absorbed, permitting the Authority to raise the fares without further appeal to the Tribunal.

It is estimated that the award will cost the Authority £115,000 a year. A claim relating to Saturday afternoon work still remains to be negotiated, and further meetings between the Authority and trade unions are to take place. An increase of 5 per cent. has also been applied for by members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association employed by the Authority.
