Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CHELTENHAM independent operator Swanbrook Coaches, has succeeded in getting the Cheltenham and Gloucester standard picking up and setting down conditions removed from its stage carriage licences.

The firm has wanted picking up and setting down restrictions removed from its stage services for some time. The removal of such restrictions on about 60 per cent of its services was agreed with other operators earlier in the year, leaving outstanding objections to the conditions being lifted on eight services.

However, the Western Traffic Commissioners have now removed the conditions from seven of the services following the withdrawal of objections from Cheltenham and Gloucester Omnibus and the Cheltenham District Traction and in one case, Oxford City Council. The services concerned include two services in Cheltenham, two that operate between Gloucester and Swindon, a service between Arlington and Gloucester, one between Charlton Kings and Cheltenham and another between Gloucester and Oxford.

The only outstanding objection remaining is from P. F. Hall and D. P. Ashby, trading as Circle Line Coaches, to the removal of the conditions from the licence authorising a service between Longlevens and Gloucester. The Commissioners have adjourned consideration of that application pending discussions between the parties and Gloucester County Council, which it is hoped will resolve the matter.

Later Don Thomas, a partner in Swanbrook Coaches, told CM that he felt one of the factors in the withdrawal of the objections was the proposed de-regulation of stage services — the objectors felt that it was no longer worth a lengthy court battle.
