Nine Exhibits Comprise Five Goods Models, Three Motorbuses and a 60-seater Trolleybus

— Stand 84

THE stand space allotted to the Guy concern is well taxed, for this maker has chosen to exhibit nine models comprising five goods chassis, three motorbuses and a trolleybus.

Of recent introduction is the parcelsvan chassis, with a four-cylindered overhead-valve engine rated at 20.1 h.p., and delivering 50 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m. With a chassis weight of 30i cwt., the vehicle has been designed to carry a 20-cwt. pay-load.

Next in the ascending scale of payload capacities is the well-known Wolf 2-ton chassis, which is to -be seen with a brilliant show finish. The same engine as is used in the parcels van is incorporated in this model, but the wheelbase, at 12 ft. 6 ins., is 2 ft. longer than in the former, case. Despite its 33k-per-cent. greater carrying capacity, the chassis weight is only 2 cwt. greater, being 32i cwt.

Weighing but 35 cwt. in chassis form is the Otter 4-tonner, with a fourcyliridered overhead-valve engine of 95-mm. bore and 130-mm. stroke, rated at 22.5 h.p. and delivering 00 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m. The wheelbase and track dimensions are similar to those of the Wolf, but the four-speed a52 gearbox incorporates a " silent" third ratio,

Particular interest attaches to the new Fox 5-ton trailing-axle six-wheeler weighing only 2 tons 2-A. cwt. It is

priced at the moderate figure of £398. Users of Otter chassis who require a slightly higher pay-load capacity will be interested to learn that the same engine is employed in both models.

Lockheed servo brakes operate on all six wheels, which carry, at the front, 32-in. by 6-in, truck-type single tyres, and, at the rear, 32-in. by 7-in, single equipment ; alternatively, 32-in. by 6-in, twin truck-type tyres may be fitted at the rear.

The remaining goods model is a 7iton oiler with a Gardner fourcylindered 29 h.p. engine ; incidentally, it is also available with a fivecylindered power unit.

The interests of passenger-vehicle operators are, in part, catered for by a Vixen 24-seater single-decker with the 20.1 h.p. engine, and having front. entrancebodywork. Two Arab chassis are also shown, one having a 45-seater double-deck body. In both' cases the Gardner five-cylindered oil engine of 36.25 h.p. is incorporated.

A Guy patented pre-selective control and clutch for a Cotal gearbox is on the Southampton bus. It is described on page 432.

The trolleybus is the well-known Guy six-wheeled 60-seater having a patented compound-wound interpole 75 h.p. motor. Lockheed hydraulic servo brakes operate on all six wheels. The generator is a C.A.V.-Bosch heavyduty constant-voltage unit. —Guy Motors, Ltd., Fallings Park, Wolverhampton.
