• The Transport & General Workers Union and the Road Haulage Association in Scotland are meeting to discuss the latest information about the Working Time Directive and its impact on pay levels.
The meeting, scheduled for June, will consider whether the current arrangement is adequate or whether it needs to be looked at again.
T&G drivers' representatives and RHA members who sit on the Scottish Joint Industrial Council signed a four-year pay deal which came into effect in April 2001.
This deal boosted basic pay and also provided for guarantees on weekly hours to be altered and averaged over the course of a 17-week period when the WID comes into force.
Tony Trench, the TGWU regional industrial organiser in Scotland, says: "We will be talking about how to move forward on pay, assessing the latest informaton we have from the government and the impact of the legislation."
