TRAINING Freight recruits

• The British International Freight Association has helped develop an International Trade and Services Modern Apprenticeship for the freight services industry. It is designed for 16 to 24-yearolds. A MAPP course can last up to three years, and can lead to a Level 3 NVQ in communication, number application and IT.

Reach truck set-ups

• The Joint Industry Council for Lift Truck Operating Standards and Vocational Qualifications has published a booklet, Basic Test for Operators of Counterbalanced and Reach Trucks, showing how the test should be setup, carried out and marked. Coupled with the practical test is a pre-operational check and theoretical test. Cost: £10 ; £6 each for 10 or more, inclusive.

The West

The Midlands

• Staffordshire, A50 Stoke-on-Trent: Major construction work continues at Meir. Long peak-time delays should be expected, until March 1998.

The North

• West Yorkshire, M1 J47: Major roadworks continue around the Leeds junction with lane and speed restrictions. Drivers should expect delays on the Ml, M621 and Dewsbury Road, until 15 September.
