• Tankfreight is hoping to clinch a major European distribution deal with oil giant Elf.
The contract, based in France, will operate on the same lines as the NFC subsidiary's Texaco deal, operating in the UK says NFC deputy chairman James Watson.
In the UK about 60% of Elf's distribution activities are already undertaken by hauliers. 0 Watson, who becomes NFC chairman this Christmas, says the firm is also on the verge of signing two deals in Spain and one in America (see page 23).
Exel Logistics is hoping to acquire a US and a Spanish distribution firm and should also be signing a distribution deal with a major Spanish department store.
