Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Renault VI and MAN are investigating the joint development of components to cut costs in the development of cleaner engines writes John Kendall. Top of the list are engines in the 100-280hp range.

The two firms are concentrating on the MAN D08 6.87litre engine, currently used in the L2000 and M90 rigid and tractor range from 7.5 to 36 tonnes GCW. This engine will be developed to meet Euro-3 and the US 1998 emissions requirements. Other engines may also be developed jointly, as will axles—but this will not affect MAN's agreements with Eaton.

Renault shelved plans for joint engine developments with Volvo after the proposed merger between the two companies collapsed in 1993. MAN expects the new agreement to be signed later this year. Renault and MAN are set to jointly develop MANis 6.9 litre engine for Euro-3.
