ON Wednesday last a deputation representative '14--• of motoring interests waited upon the Chancellor of the Exchequer in order to lay before him certain views upon matters of importance arising out of the Budget proposals. The organizations represented were as follows : The Standing Joint Committee of Mechanical Road Transport Associations (embracing the Commercial Motor Users Association), the Electrical Vehicle Committee of Great Britain, the Furniture Warehousemen and Removers Association, the London and Provincial Omnibus Owners Association, theoMansion House Association on Railway and Canal Traffic, the National Road Transport Employers Federation, the National Traction Engine Owners and Users Association, the Scottish Commercial Motor Users Association, the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain and Ireland and the Steam Cultivation Development Association.

The delegates representative of the Standing Joint Committee were : Mr. E. S. Shrapnell-Smith, C.B.E. (chairman), Mr. R. W. G. Barnett (Liverpool Cartage Co., Ltd.. Liverpool), Col. R. E. Crompton, C.B., R.E. (London), Mr. A. J. Dixon n18 (A. J. Dixon, Ltd., London), Mr. W. Edwards (Garlick, Burrell and Edwards, Ltd., Liverpool), Mr. F. M. Elgar (Wingham Engineering Co., Ltd., Kent), Mr. J. France (France and Brook, Ltd., Slaithwaite, Huddersfield), Mr. S. E. Garcke (British Automobile Traction Co., Ltd., London), Mr. Percy Grundy (Grundy and Co., Ltd., Kettering), Mr. E. Graham Guest, M.A., J.P. (McVitie, Guest and Co., Ltd., Edinburgh), Major-Gen. S. S. Long, C.B. (Lever Bros., Ltd., London and Liverpool), Mr. L. G. Oldfield, F.C.A., London, and Mr. F. G. Bristow, F.C.I.S. (hon. secretary).

Representing the Royal Automobile Club was Commander F. P. Armstrong, O.B.E. (secretary, R.A.C.), whilst representing the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders were Sir William Letts, K.B.E. (president, S.M.M. and T.), and Col. A. Hacking, D.S.O. (secretary, S.M.M. and T.).

The deputation was introduced by Sir William Letts, and Commander Armstrong spoke on behalf of the Royal Automobile Club, whilst the other speakers were : Mr. E. S. Shrapnell-Smith, Col. Crompton, Col. Backing and Mr. Barnett.
