batting of diesel exhaust fumes, Mr. Denzil Freeth said this week there was no evidence that these fumes produced cancer or chronic bronchitis. But this was no excuse for neglecting to deal with offensive smoke.
The Warren Spring laboratory was collaborating with the Ministry of Transport in devising roadside test procedures. The British Internal Combustion Engine Research Association was studying the effects of combustion system design on exhaust constituents, and M.I.R.A. was looking into petrol engine fumes. It was, with member firms, also studying the problem of completing combustion of exhaust gases, as well as in the development of direct-flame and catalytic afterburning devices.
