Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

to my fleet. Will the driver need a Class 1 hgv licence?

A Not necessarily. The holder of a Class

1 hgv licence is entitled to drive any vehicle which falls within any of the classes listed. A Class 2 hgv licence entitles the holder to drive a heavy goods vehicle, not fitted with automatic transmission, other than an articulated vehicle, designed and constructed to have more than four wheels in contact with the road surface. A drawbar trailer outfit is not classed as an articulated vehicle and a Class 2 licence is appropriate.
