Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

plarform lorry which would have a 10-ton gvw and would weigh just under 3 tons unladen. As I am 17 years, would I be able to drive this vehicle on my ordinary car licence?

I have heard that from November I 1973, I will only be able to drive a vehicle of 3.5 tons g-vw. Would this mean that I would have to sell the vehicle once this law came into force?

Would I be within the law "the vehicle was operated in my father's name on his operator's licence, as he is already a haulage contractor and has full facilities, etc?

A An hgv licence is not required in order

to drive a motor vehicle under 3 tons unladen. You may, therefore, drive the vehicle which you describe while you are in possession of an ordinary "Part II" driving licence.

The proposal that drivers of 17 should be restricted to driving goods vehicles of up to 3.5 metric tons gross weight is part of the change which will be required to bring the UK into line with Article 15 of the European Economic Community

Regulations 543 /69. It was at first reportc that these changes should come into force November next year but subsequently it hi become plain that, for driving to Conl nental destinations, the regulations w become enforceable from April 1 nex For driving in the UK, however, there some doubt about the date on which tl new law will become enforceable. Ti article on page 29 of Commercial Mot( (November 10) sets out the present positior

So far as the operator's licence concerned, the user of the vehicle considered to be the person responsible f holding the 0 licence. Broadly, the us has been defined as the person who pays tl driver's wages. If your father employs y( as a driver and pays you a wage for yo services as the driver of the unit, then t: vehicle, after authority has been obtain' from the appropriate Licensing Authorit may be included on your father's licence. He is then responsible, however, f all the obligations imposed upon t licensee of the vehicle.
