HERMES HAS teamed up with the Logistics Guild and the Royal Logistics Corps to provide an insight to military personnel of what a career in logistics entails.

The parcel carrier kicked off its partnership with a two-day workshop for 80 people based at the Duke of Gloucester Barracks in South Cerney near Cirencester, Gloucester, to pro vide advice and guidance about working in the supply chain sector.

Hermes staff gave presentations that outlined some of the opportunities in its transport, warehouse and delivery operations, along with the wider logistics industry.

Soldiers also received practical assistance on how best to seek employment, as well as help with CV writing and interview techniques. Lt Col Nov Nanovo, commanding officer of 29 Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps, said he is committed to helping his service personnel

make the transition from the armed forces to civilian careers "with the very best advice and guidance available to them".

The Logistics Guild, open to anyone working in logistics, has been working with the British Army and the Royal Logistics Corps for several months. "By working with organisations such as Hermes and the Logistics Guild, it will be possible for my people to exploit the skills and expertise they have gained in the army to

find jobs in the supply chain," Nanovo said.

The two-day workshop was followed by a work experience event organised by the Logistics Guild and Hermes that took place at Hermes' national distribution hub in Nuneaton, Warwickshire (pictured) and at its Coventry depot. The event provided an overview of the company's operation and insight into the parcel delivery lifecycle.

Hermes HR director Jane Naumkin said: "We are pleased to provide support to such a deserving part of our society, who in turn can make a significant contribution to the success of the business. We hope this relationship with the Royal Logistics Corps will help some of the military personnel faced with redundancy to find a new career path in the supply chain."

Hermes is liaising with the Royal Logistics Corps to identify future events and possible work experience opportunities. • For more information on the Logistics Guild, go to logisticsguild.net
