Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FARES increases sought by Lewis bus company, Galson,Stornas, vay Motor Services Ltd, are not as fierce as was first indicated. They have applied to the Scottish Traffic Commissioners for increases in fares of up to 30 per cent— and not over 100 per cent as shown in the latest issue of the traffic court's Notices and Proceedings.

The notice quoted the fares first approved at a court sitting in Stornoway in 1970 and did not take into account increases which have been approved since then. A spokesman for the firm, which is based at Lower Barvas, Stornoway, said that maximum increases for which it had applied are no more than 30 per cent. For instance, it proposes a new return fare on the Ness-Stornoway route of £1, an increase of 25 per cent.

An official of the traffic court in Aberdeen said: "There does seem to have been some sort of mix-up. We are checking our files."
