MR. C. A. BIRTCHNELL, who is so /ell known in connection with the mad-transport side pf the Ministry of War Transport, was one of the victims of the attack of food poisoning, which recently caused considerable disturbance at Berkeley Square House. MR. T. R`VeANCE HAGUE, A.M.Inst.T., the Bedgewater Canal Superintendent, is retiring from business on September 30 after 53 years continuous service with the Manchester Ship Canal Co. and the Bridgewater Canals Undertaking. An article describing the road-transport activities41 of the latter organization appeared 'in " The Commercial Motor " . dated February 14. Mr. Rylance Hague has been associated with every branch of the inland canal-transport industry, and is liaison officer and secretary of the North-Western Regional Canal Advisory -Committee (Ministry of Txansport). He also serves on many other bodies including the Manchester Port Emergency Committee, the Canal Joint Committee (London), the Executive of the Nation-1 Association of Canal Carriers '(Birmingham), and the North-West 'Regional Transport Advisory Committee.
