THE city's transport services were losing about £20,000 a month, and there was likely to be a deficit of £100,000 at the end of the financial year, Glasgow Transport Committee were told on Monday.
Although there was a surplus of £11,200 at February 5, this was much less than the £140,000 which the transport department had at the same time last year.
Although there were surpluses from the trolleybuses (£67,700), motorbuses (£9.900) and the underground railway, the trams had a deficit of £95,900.
• Cllr. G. Reid blamed the shortage of drivers, which was keeping buses and trams off the road. "At present we are working on the highest fares and giving the worst service we have ever known," he said.
