• Proposals to run rapid transit services have been made 1:13 two former National Bus Company subsidiaries.
Luton & District Transport is exploring the possibility of running light rapid transit vehicles on the Luton to Dunstable line, at presrit owned by British Rail.
The Luton to Dunstable branch last saw passenger rail services in 1962, though part of it is still used for freight.
Southern Vectis wants to buy the BR line between Ryde pier and Shanklin on the Isle oi Wight.
It says that the line could be turned into more of a tourist attraction and better integrate( into the island's bus network.
