A NEW bearing metal developed to

satisfy the arduous conditions imposed by oil engines has been developed by the Tin Research institute. Dr. E. S. Hedges, director of the Institute, introduced the material at a conference of Italian motor manufacturers at Milan on Mcinday.

It contains up to 30 per cent, of tin in alloy with aluminium. The metal is said to cause less journal wear than a copper-lead bearing and to be no more costly.

BRITISH SERVICE "SUPERIOR"

THE former director of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Mr. R. Gresham Cooke, M.P., told the Publicity Club of London, on Monday, that the provision of spares for British vehicles in most parts of 'the world was superior to the spares service maintained by American and German manufacturers.

He said That any falling-off in the sales of British cars overseas would be. offset to a large extent by the sales of commercial vehicles, which were doing very well.
