• Ford has developed two Transit Executive buses fitted with electronic route guidance systems. One uses the Philips CARIN autonomous guidance system linked to the mobile telephone network. This provides current traffic information and route guidance.
The other is fitted with detailed position-finding equipment. The system is based on the Global Positioning System (GPS) which uses satellites for accurate position finding and was used in the Gulf War. Using map matching and the Radio Data System — Traffic Message Channel (RDS-TMC), traffic information is also available.
