acquired the firm of Phillip W. Smith (Nottingham) Ltd. and its subsidiary companies Phillip Smith (1947) Ltd. and Phillip Smith (Garages) Ltd.
National Carbonising manufactures Rexco smokeless coal and has among its interests J. Clarke (Haulage) Ltd., the Midlands firm of road transport contractors, operating 45 bulk transport vehicles. The acquisition of Phillip W. Smith will bring a further 21 bulk transport vehicles and a chain of Midlands garages into the group.
The purchase of the Phillip Smith companies has been financed by the issue of 90,000 National Carbonising 2s. Ordinary shares.
