THE National Chamber of Trade annual conference at Margate on Monday, adopted a resolution which asked the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation to abolish the existing regulations that records of journeys should be kept for vehicles of up to 30 cwt. unladen weight.
Mr. S. G. Bradford said that the object of keeping records was, in the main, in the interests of road safety, and to ensure proper rest periods for those engaged on long-distance goods haulage. For retail distributors, and others employed on local deliveries, whose vehicles must stop and start scores of times daily and must include rest periods, the position of keeping detailed records became fatuous.
Mr. C. H. B. Martin said he had information that there was every prospect of this resolution being favourably considered. He understood that negotiations with the Ministry of Transport were now going on.
