Modernized Appearance, More Efficient Engine and Better Brakes Among Important Modifications

A NUMBER of improvements to its normal-control 2-ton, 3-ton and six-wheeled goods vehicles is announced by the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., Dagenham. In their new form the two fourwheelers will be offered at the same prices as in the past, whilst an increase of 1O is being made in the case of the Surrey and Sussex models, which (with normal control) are available with either 134-in. or 157-in. wheelbases. Deliveries can now be made.

Moat no,ticeable among the improvements is the change in appearance brought about by a new design of radiator shell, grille and bonnet, which blend with a slightly pointed windscreen. This is clearly shown in the accompanying picture.

In addition, the V-8 engine has been rendered quieter in operation, and its sturdiness and durability enhanced. Formerly having a total area of 35.36 square ins., the main bearings have been increased in size to afford a surface of 40.5 square ins. There is a new arrangement of water pumps and cylinder-head water outlets which increases the cooling efficiency. The water pumpa are self-sealing and self-lubricating. Dual fan belts are now employed. A governor is included as standard equipment on all three types.

In respect of the electrical system, longer life of the contact-points and greater general efficiency has been effected by an alteration to the design of the distributor unit. With a view to improving the accessibility of the battery, to encourage the driver regularly to top it up, this component is now mounted in a well-protected position under the bonnet.

Modifications to the brake system are noteworthy. There is an increase in frictional area ; ease of application has been improved; adjustment can now be effected with great facility by a wedge mechanism, and steps have been taken to ensure that damage or wear of any shoe does not affect the efficient operation of the' other brakes.

A welded all-steel cab gives strength and improved Safety. It is insulated against cold and heat, and the wellsprung and padded driver's seat is adjustable,
