AN air service between London and Paris is to be started on April 8 by Skyways, Ltd., 7 Berkeley Street, London, W.1, so that goods consigned to France may he delivered within 24 hours, including the times needed for Customs clearance. Rates will be lower than those charged for express surface transport, it is stated.
There will be daily departures from the London depot at 33 Elizabeth Street, London, S.W.1, and the Paris depot in the Place de la Mpublique. Skyways will run an Austin 2-twiner under B licence from Elizabeth Street to Lympne airport, from where aircraft will fly to Beauvais. Users of the service will be expected to arrange for the delivery of their goods to the depot or airport until collection services are provided by the company, and similarly for picking up loads brought over from France. „ Excluding charges for Customs clearance and handling, the rate for transport between Lympne and Beauvais will be 10d, per kilogramme (2.2 lb.) for consignments weighing less than 45 kg„ and 74d. per kg. for lots over this limit. For London-Paris transit the rate will be is. 2d. per kg. for loads under 45 kg. and 10d. per kg. for consignments greater than 45_kg. 'Minimum charge will be for 5 kg.
