The ninth ordinary general meeting of United Automobile Services, Ltd., was held a few days ago, and the chairman remarked on the phenomenal growth of the company. In 1914 they only had three depots, whereas now 16are in being, stretching from Northumberland to Suffolk. They have 200 buses in operation, running over 650 miles of roadway, the latest types of vehicles being of a light and improved design, similar to that which was exhibited at last year's Olympia Show. The buses have been operated both successfully and profitably, and the financial position of the company is sound, as is evidenced by the payment of a dividend of 7 per cent. free of income tax.

Mr. E. S. Shrapne1I-Smith's letter to The Times of last Thursday, upon the position of the small haulier should the railway group secure power to conduct road transport, was a very valuable contribution to the question.
