ANEW establishment to deal solely with long-term research And development is' to be set up by Leyland Motors, Ltd., and will be pioneered by Sir A. H. Roy Fedden, M.B.E., E.R,S.A., D.Sc., F.R.Ae.S., M.I.Mech.E., the famous aero engineer.
Sir Roy became Leyland director of research and development on January 1. His early experience in the motor industry, before joining the Bristol Aeroplane Co., Ltd., was with Brazil Straker and Co., Ltd., Bristol.
Mr. C. B. Nixon, chairman of Leyland Motors, Ltd., said that the company did not underrate the contribution that the Motor Industry Research Associatioa was making to the technical advancement of the industry, but felt the need for sponsoring an establishment devoted solely to perfecting goods and passenger vehicles of the heavier types.
