1.o.T. MEMBERSHIP INCREASE

THE annual report of the Institute of Transport shows that during the year ended September 30 last, membership increased by 461 to 8,111. During the year H.M. The King conferred honours on 21 members of the Institute.

It is also stated that the British Transport Commission had agreed to continue for 1949 the awards formerly given by the Railway Companies'

Association. Expenditure during the year exceeded income by £1,593, as a result principally of increases in staff salaries.

TROLLEYBUSES FOR MYSORE h/lYSORE Government has authorlVlized the expenditure of Rs.4,884,000 for the purchase of trolleybuses for Bangalore. In the first instance, 30 vehicles will be placed in service. The Government will bear the initial expenditure.

MADRAS TRANSPORT BOARD

ATRANSPORT board is expected shortly to be set up in Madras, India. The Government will hold 51 per cent, of the share capital. The board will control the entire transport system of the province of Madras, and be responsible for the extension of nationalization.

The State buses in Madras cover about 30,000 miles a day. On the average, about 225 buses a day are in service, and each carries about 800 passengers.

NEARLY 200 employees of Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., Chatham and District Traction Co., and the Hastings Tramways Co. have been . awarded certificates and badges to mark the completion of 25 or more years of service.
