THE anomalous position regarding the taxation of tower wagons is to be examined during the next few months. The taxation of other mobile plant will also be reviewed.

This information has been given to the Association of Municipal Corporations by the Ministry of Transport. The A.M.C. had pointed out that local highway authorities had to pay a rate of excise duty different from public utility corporations, and local authorities would incur, the transport levy.

The Association also urged that all municipal goods vehicles should be exempt from the levy, to which the Ministry replied that this 'was a separate issue which could not be considered.
