Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MODERATE trade' unionists and some Labour MPs are to challenge the continued membership of the Labour party's national executive of Alex Kitson, an officer of the Transport and General Workers Union.

The moderates argue that Mr Kitson stands as a nominee of the Scottish Commercial Motormen's Union, which has not existed for the past three years. It merged with the TGWU in 1971.

However when the merger took place part of the agreement was that the SCMC should continue its separate affiliation with the Labour Party. About 13,000 commercial motormen pay the political levy and the union has its own political fund.

Mr Kitson, with the other national executive members, is up for re-election at the party's annual conference this September.
