Engine Analysing Range Now being manufactured in Britain by the Blackhawk Division of Applied Power Industries is a large range of American electronic engine-analysing equipment. This made its first appearance here at the Motor Show.

The range consists of an engine analyser (model TE-100), a compact unit suitable for 6-, 12or 24-V ignition systems which adjust automatically for 4-, 6or 8-cylinder engines. The 8-in.

oscilloscope, which is adjustable for eye-level viewing, is mounted on a steel frame which acts both as a suspension unit and as a guard for the instrument panel. The basic engine hook-up has five attachment points for all readings, including regulator setting. There are three large, 6-in, colour-coded meters—accuracy is 2 per cent of full scale. Engine analyser model TE-110 is a small mobile unit, suitable for the smaller garage, and performs most of the functions of the TE-100. it incorporates an ignition 'scope, tachometer and timing light in one portable unit. The Blackhawk Gas Analyzer (1TE-171) is a compact unit which can be used with a mobile stand. It gives quick and accurate analysis of exhaust samples. Individual hand-held test meters in the 1Blackhawk range include the TE-410 volt-amp tester suitable for checking positive or negative earth systems, the TE-420 dwell tachometer for locating ignition faults, the TE-430 ignition output tester, the TE-440 transistorized dwell angle meter and the TE-450 fuel system analyzer.

Horizontal Air Compressor A HORIZONTAL air compressor, the 307/B15, designed for P1 medium-sized garages operating a lubricating service was introduced at the Motor Show by Bristol Pneumatic Tools Ltd. It is a 15 c.f.rn. displacement model which produces 12.5 cu. ft. of air at 200 p.s.i.g. This is a 25 per cent greater output than that of model 307/B13.5, with which it is identical in many respects and which it now replaces.

Inspection and Parking Lamp A NEW lamp, called the Magna-lite, which incorporates a strong magnet, is now available from Wipac Group Sales Ltd. The magnet ensures that the lamp will adhere to any steel surface—thereby making it very useful in emergencies. When inspecting an engine, for example, the lamp could be placed inside the bonnet; when changing a tyre it could be attached to the wheel arch. An important consideration is that it leaves both hands free.

The Magna-lite has a red and white lens and retractable shields are fitted for reducing back glare when the lamp is used at close quarters. These shields are brought into use by turning a nut on the underside of the body—this is unscrewed when replacing the bulb. Apart from this nut the lamp is completely sealed.

The lamp body is of weatherproof plastics with chrome sideplates. It runs off the vehicle battery and is supplied complete with a long length of cable, crocodile clips and a 6or 12-V festoon bulb.

Hose and Couplings for Bulk Handling

VIRST published in 1961, B.S. 3362 has now had its title I changed to "Hose and couplings for bulk handling of animal feeding stuffs and grain "; a complementary specification for " hose " has been issued as Part 2 of the Standard. Part 1 deals with suitable couplings. The new Part 2 sets out the requirements for rubber discharge hose, including details of construction, dimensions and tolerances. The Standard covers electrical bonding and reinforced wire, and specifies physical tests on the finished hose. Methods of test are set out in appendices.

Ltd., the sole selling agents in the U.K. Called the Refix Hydraulic Floor Crane, it is of Danish manufacture. The crane is of heavy steel construction with an adjustable jib boom which adapts to various lifting angles. It runs on four, heavy nylontyred wheels with slide bearings; the front wheels turn through 360° and together with the tilting pull handle give scope for easy and accurate manauvring. Adjustment of the jib boom is by a single hand-bolt—there is no " skidding" of the boom. Tilting of the jib boom is controlled by a combined pump ram hydraulic unit—by eliminating oil pipes oil leakages are prevented. The unit is equipped with a sensitive valve and manual adjustment of the pump operating handle to any of three positions gives easy operation under varying load conditions.

Three models are available in the standard range; model 1000 (1 ton), model 1500 (1 ton M cwt.) and model 2500 (2 ton 10 cwt.). A huger model with a capacity of 5 ton is made to special order. Delivery is three-four weeks.

High-pressure Washer • RECENTLY introduced by E. P. Barrus (Concessionnaires) Ltd. and displayed for the first time at the Motor Show is a higli-pressure washer called the Handyman, made in America by the John E. Mitchell Company. The equipment consists of a portable wheeled cabinet, incorporating the pump unit and concentrate tank and a high-pressure hose with a metal head into whichspray nozzles are screwed, Power is from a 15 A, 230/240 V Main.

A suitable concentrate is poured into the tank in the cabinet from where it is passed into a manifold. There it is mixed with water which pours into the manifold from a hose coupled to the water inlet on the Cabinet. The volume of water and concentrate can be adjusted by valve controls on the unit so that the desired proportions can be obtained. The mixture is then pumped into the high-pressure hose and out of the nozzle at a pressure of 500/600 p.s.i.

Three types of nozzle are included with the equipment, a 65' nozzle being designed for general use. Others are a 25° type suitable for harder-to-clean surfaces and a high-pressure jet for removing heavy grease or mud deposits. Concentrates include a general purpose cleaner, a paint stripper, a heavyduty degreaser and a type suitable for cleaning oxidized aluminium surfaces. Two metal hose heads arc included— one for easy-to-reach jobs, the other for bigger surfaces such as large vehicles.
