Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The truckzone at SED 2004 is set to be the biggest tipper show of the year. We continue our build-up to the big event with a look at

what the truck manufacturers have on display.

The truckzone, hosted by Commercial Motor, is a dedicated area of the giant SED Show focused on commercial vehicles.Visitors will be able to see the latest 4x4s from Ford, Mitsubishi,Nissan and Santana given a thorough workout, while Commercial Motor will also be staging Tipper Live!, a demonstration area where exhibitors in the zone will have the opportunity to show the crowds what their products can do. The truckzone exhibitor list is a veritable Who's Who? of suppliers to the construction sector. Here we focus on the truck manufacturers attending the three-day event. BMC (UK): Stand 722 BMC UK is making its truckzone debut; it will have two vehicles on the stand — the Pro 518 and the Pro 625.They are both 4x2 rigids. The 518 sports the 1217 day cab with a Roger Dyson sliding-back body and a Hiab crane. Under the bonnet is the Cummins ISBe 167hp

engine with a ZF six-speed transmission.

Partnering it will be the 625 which has a Cyncro-built beavertail body and 10-tonne hydraulic winch. Again it's powered by a Cummins ISBe engine, this time at 245hp with an Eaton box. BMC boss, Phil Stratton sees SED Show in the same light as the CV Show: an opportunity for BMC UK to reaffirm its commitment to the construction industry. Daf Trucks: Stand 517

Daf is back in the Truckzone after an absence of a year. The Dutch giant will be showing its range of rigid chassis-cabs including a black LF45 7.5-tonne tipper and an 8x4 CF eightwheeler alongside an 18-tonne tipper. lveco: Stand 506 Iveco has the biggest stand in this year's truckzone which will be packed with its full range of products. The stand will be broken into four sectors covering trucks, vans, used vehicles and

Seddon Atkinson.'The truck division will be showing the new Eurocargo in tipper form; vans will include a range of Daily tippers. Seddon Atkinson will be showing its new 18-tonner, while the used vehicle division is set to display a 540hp Stralis, a 7.5-tonne tipper and a beavertail 7.5-tonner. MAN-ERF UK: Stand 740

But there's no doubt which truck manufacturer qualifies for the out-and-out 'new' category in the truckzone ;it's MAN ERF UK with the long-awaited MAN TGA 8x4 rigid. The chassis-cab was launched at the CV Show in March but this time it will have a steel body. It replaces the F2000 and weighs in about 230kg lighter with 100kg saving made in the switch from the D28 engine to the recently

launched common-rail D20. The management team in Swindon is looking for market share, raising its current 5% with the F2000 towards 8%.The Anglo-German company intends to achieve this goal by targeting the bulk tipper sector, while the F2000's core market was the muckaway business. Renault Trucks UK: Stand 504

The multi-axle rigid marketplace is a tough environment and several truck manufacturers have made their intentions clear in the past 12 months. MAN ERF UK follows hot on the heels of Renault Trucks UK which re-introduced a lightweight Kerax under the Highway banner last year — both manufacturers now produce lighter 8x4 chassis.

RenaultTrucks will be exhibiting its revamped and lighter Kerax alongside a Master—both vehicles will be shown fitted with tipper bodies. As we go to press Renault has not confirmed the new Kerax tractor will be at the SED; customer demand could well mean it's out earning its keep. Scania: Stand 553

We'd hoped Scania might take the opportunity to show off its new R-Series, but that now looks unlikely. Instead the Swedish manufacturer will have an 8x4 P114 concrete mixer from Derek Jones Commercials, fitted with an 11-litre 340hp Euro-3 engine. Another Scania eight-wheeler will be fitted with a Thompson Charlton muckaway body in the livery ofTMC Haulage; The Concrete Company is supplying a 6x4 P94 concrete mixer with a 9.0-litre 260hp lump under its cab. Valley Trucks: Stand 522

Isuzu and Hino dealership Valley Trucks will be at SED with a pair of Isuzu NKRs — a dropside and a lightweight tipper .The third Isuzu will have a beavertail body built by its in-house bodybuilder, Bingley Bodies.

Mick Page, who runs the dealership, is pushing the one-stop-shop programme for operators at the show. The fourth vehicle to make an appearance on the stand will be an 8x4 Hino with a steel tipper body. Volvo Truck & Bus: Stand 514

Volvo Trucks, another construction favourite, will have established products on its stands but don't be surprised to find some innovations in the bodywork department, including a heavyduty three-piece 3mm-thick steel bumper for its FM line-up. It will be fitted 80mm higher to improve ground clearance; supplies will be available from September. An 8x4 FM12 8x4 day cab with a 420hp engine and concrete mixer body, an FL skip loader and a day-cab four-axle FM12 with rear air suspension will also be on view. The FM12 is fitted with an Atlas 500 crane and a dropside tipper body. • Opening times and travel SED 2004 will be held on 18-20 May at Fen Farm, Wavendon, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire Opening Times 18 May: 9am-5.30pm 19 May: 9am-5.30pm 20 May: 9am-4.30pm
